Lions Sweep Crusaders for Second Straight Win

DALLAS – Dallas College Mountain View's volleyball team won back-to-back matches, including a sweep of Dallas Christian College in the Mountain View Tri-Match Friday.

The Lions pulled out a comeback five-set victory over Arlington Baptist University Wednesday, winning, 24-26, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19, 15-12. Two days later, they swept Dallas Christian College, 25-21, 25-8, 25-20, to open the Mountain View Tri-Match.

In the win over Arlington Baptist, Mountain View hit .296 in the second set and .278 in the fourth. The Lions had 12 kills in the second set and 13 in the fourth.

Kendricia Johnson had 10 kills, and Tailor Perkins added nine kills, nine digs, two solo blocks and two aces, while hitting .750. Perkins did not have an attack error in 12 swings. Nyah Bumpas finished with nine kills. Dakota Butler had seven kills and a block, and had a .278 attack percentage. Jade McCafferty had 27 assists, 15 digs and an ace. Briana Cordoba had 17 assists and 11 digs. Skylar Daniels had 32 digs and an ace. Ceciliana Pena had 20 digs and an ace. Kahmya Rice added 11 digs and two aces.

Mountain View served up nine aces.

In Friday's sweep of the Crusaders, the Lions banged 11 kills in the second and third sets, and had a .391 attack rate in the middle set.

Sydnei Pena pounded nine kills, and hit .333. Bumpas had six kills. Daniels had 21 digs and three of the Lions' 10 aces. Cordoba had 15 assists and three aces. McCafferty added 10 assists and two aces. Kendricia Johnson, Butler and Perkins each had a solo block.

The Lions (2-11) play at Clarendon College 2 p.m. Tuesday. Next Saturday, they compete in the Seminole State Tri-Match. Mountain View returns home Sept. 23 to host Dallas College Brookhaven in the Dallas Athletic Conference opener on Pack it Blue Night.
