Mountain View Announces Dallas College Legacy Award Finalists
Dallas College Mountain View announced its finalists for the Dallas College Legacy Award.
Each recipient will earn a chance to be inducted into Dallas College Athletics Lifetime Legacy Lore. The Legacy Award honors former Dallas College student-athletes and coaches who distinguished themselves through exceptional athletic and academic performances at their respective campuses, and who have continued to excel in their professional and personal lives long after their playing days. These individuals represent the highest standards of leadership, excellence and impact – both within Dallas College and in the communities they serve.
Michaela Walker
Michaela Walker played on the women's basketball and softball teams at Mountain View. Walker earned Academic All-Metro Athletic Conference and Mountain View's Female Student-Athlete of the Year honors in 2018-19.
Walker now works a science teacher and assistant softball coach at Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Texas.
Hayley Williams
Haley Williams played on Mountain View's volleyball team in 2020 and 2021. She was a member of the 2021 Dallas Athletic Conference regular season championship team that went 18-13 overall, 7-3 in the league. The Lions advanced to the NJCAA District championship match that season.
Williams currently works as a plant engineer at a natural gas plant in Baytown, Texas.
William Gary Talton
Gary Talton was a member of Mountain View's 2011 NJCAA Division III National Championship men's basketball team.
Talton was a First Team NJCAA Division III All-American in 2010-11. He earned NJCAA All-Tournament Team honors in the Lions' championship run after averaging 14.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game that season. Mountain View went 26-8 overall, beating Rochester Community & Technical College, 71-64, in the national championship game in Loch Sheldrake, New York. The Lions also won the 2010-11 Metro Athletic Conference and NJCAA Region V titles that season.
Talton became the 16th pick in the 2013 NBA Development League Draft by the Rio Grande Vipers. He played with the Vipers from 2013-15, becoming the franchise's leader in assists, while competing on a team that reached the NBA G-League Finals. He also played professionally for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in 2014-15, with his team reaching the G-League semifinals. He went on to play professionally in Greece, Romania, Latvia and Morocco.
Keitha Dickerson
Keitha Dickerson coached Mountain View women's basketball team to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament for the first time in program history in 2022-23 as the Lions went 12-9 overall, 3-1 in the Dallas Athletic Conference. The Lions beat Dallas College Cedar Valley 67-57 in the South Central District championship. She was named the DAC Coach of the Year. Dickerson coached an NJCAA Division III Second Team All-American that season. Her teams won double-digit games for a program-best three consecutive years from 2022-25.
She was an assistant women's coach at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2002 when the Roadrunners went 18-11. Dickerson coached one season as an assistant at the University of Texas at El Paso in 2001-02.
Dickerson played in the WNBA for the Minnesota Lynx and Utah Starzz. She was the 24th pick in the 2000 WNBA Draft, and started in 29 of the 32 games as a rookie.
She was a Second Team All-Big 12 selection at Texas Tech University after leading the conference in rebounding at 10 boards per game, while ranking third on the team in scoring at 11.9 points per game. She finished her Red Raiders career in 2000 ranked sixth on the all-time list for rebounds at 843. She also ranked fifth on Texas Tech's single season rebound list with 330 and rebound average at 10.0 per contest. She had 88 steals as a senior, which ranked 10th all-time in a single season.
Dickerson scored 1,008 points in her career as a Lady Raider from 1996-00. She ranked second in the Big 12 in double-doubles (13) in 1999-00. She was selected as one of the Top 25 junior players in the United States, and chosen to participate in the Women's Junior World Championship Qualifying Team Trials after her freshman year at Texas Tech.
